APRIL 2005

In the lobby of Cheyenne Mountain Resort, Cathy Bennett (left) presented ideas to the 2006 ASLTACRID conference committee.

FIRST-EVER CONFERENCE AND THE PARTNERSHIP WITH CRID

The weekend of April 15-17, the Colorado Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (CRID) hosted a conference at Cheyenne Mountain Conference Center, and ASLTAC President Karen Boyd and Vice-President Cathy Bennett attended. At the conclusion of the conference, Karen and Cathy met with the 2006 CRID conference committee to propose that CRID incorporate their conference with the ASLTAC’s first-ever conference next year. The CRID conference committee supported the idea, and then brainstormed about the theme of the conference, the conference location, the quantity of the attendees, and the professional development workshops.

This is the first-ever partnership between the ASLTAC and CRID and we look forward to hosting the conference as a team. Be sure to visit our website for up-to-date information on the 2006 ASLTACRID conference.

PETER COOK DID IT AGAIN!
ANOTHER STUNNING WORKSHOP

At the opening of the workshop on the narrative development of storytelling at Front Range Community College on March 12th, Peter Cook courteously asked the attendees to stand and form a large circle. He requested each of us to select any word and sign it. After each of us signed, he ordered us to sign the word in several different modes.  Boy, didn’t we have fun!

Twenty-five people attended Peter’s outstanding presentation on the differences between the narrative and the character. His samples of these two have guided us to a better understanding of which part is narrative or character.
