NEW MENTORING PROGRAM FOR EDUCATIONAL INTERPRETERS
On May 7th, the education interpreters, mentors, scholars, meta-mentors, and sign masters participated in the Educational Interpreters Mentoring Program (EIMP). Brenda Schick of the University of Colorado-Boulder presented an outstanding statistical report on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA). Brenda discussed several aspects, ranging from voice-to-sign interpreting to sign-to-voice interpreting. More information on the EIPA is available at http://www.nyedinterp.net/eipa.html.
After lunch, LeWana Clark, JoLinda Greenfield, Lorrie Kosinski, and Mah-rya Proper taught the scholars, mentors, and sign masters about feedback analysis, cross-referencing, identification of patterns, The Gish Approach (scaffolding), and hands-on practice.
When the mentoring program was a pilot program at the University of Colorado-Boulder, Karen Boyd, ASLTAC President, was chosen as a sign master. With her experiences as a sign master, she attended the workshop to support the sign masters who are currently in the mentoring program with the Colorado Department of Education and CRID. |
