Peter Cook |
At the opening of the workshop on the narrative development of storytelling at Front Range Community College on March 12th, Peter Cook courteously asked the attendees to stand and form a large circle. He requested each of us to select any word and sign it. After each of us signed, he ordered us to sign the word in several different modes. Boy, didn’t we have fun!
Twenty-five people attended Peter’s outstanding presentation on the differences between the narrative and the character. His samples of these two have guided us to a better understanding of which part is narrative or character. The examples given were also helpful for the interpreters to better understand how to translate in voicing the narrative and/or the character.
We were also given an opportunity |
to participate in the group exercises and some of us were chosen to demonstrate in front of the attendees. The exercises ranged from being the character of the blender as a kitchen accessory to the last competitive shot of an overtime game of a women’s basketball tournament at the Midwest Athletic Association of the Deaf.
The attendees to the workshop were Bonita Adair, Karen Boyd, LeWana Clark, Ralphia Counseling, Linda Croson, Catherine David, Steve Dicesare, Dawn Keller, Kristina Larkin, Susan Marcus, Barbara Meddaugh, J.T. Mengel and son, Linda Meyer, Rachel Naiman, Lance Nozat, Belinda Price, Glory Randolph, Lisa Rutland, Lori Saxe, Barbara-Jean Slopey, Valentino Vasquez, Heather Watson, Claricy Weeams, and Linda Wrenshall.
